What kind of game is Snake?

Snake is a classic video game and an all-time favorite that has been played for decades. Taito developed this game in 1976 for the first time, and it is very simple yet addictive: a snake is controlled, which grows longer as it eats apples. The goal is to eat the maximum number of apples and avoid hitting the walls or hitting its own tail. Simple controls, but not so simple to play and finish, made it a consolation for every gamer and a favorite load for nostalgia.

Controls: How to Play

Use the arrow keys or WASD in some versions to change your snake's direction. Navigate the snake to eat the apples that appear on-screen. Look for Patterns: Apples might appear in the same spots over and over. Learn where they might be next.

History

It started off as an easy arcade game in the 1970s designed to entertain for short bursts. Becoming a ballistic sensation, it passed on to home consoles by way of the Atari 2600 and much later on mobile devices, allowing the arcade hit to shine in the limelight. Its simplicity ensured that a very large crowd could understand how to play the game, and over the years, the title has been remade and repackaged an amazing number of times to keep the torch going across generations.
